Commercial Partnership Opportunities

Why partner with us?

We are establishing a progressive marketing strategy to allow us to meet the demands of high quality sport in the 21st Century, and as part of this strategy we are looking to build long, loyal and rewarding commercial partnerships with local businesses and organisations.

It is a very exciting time for Abberton & District Cricket Club and one we would like you to be a part of it. We believe we can offer businesses unique partnership opportunities differing from the normal "sponsorship gifting" you see with many clubs. It is important that you not only get value for money but also achieve your objectives, something we strive very hard to attain. Included in this pack are a number of different partnership packages that are available, ranging from low-key advertising right through to full sponsorship advertising. All our packages can be adapted and adjusted to best suit your requirements, and aside from these we would love to hear what you can offer us, and how we can help you.

Help us to reach our goals, and we will make it our ambition to ensure your business gets the exposure and reward it deserves. We are more than happy to discuss any aspects of potential partnership or advertising programme with you in detail, you"ll find our contact details on the back page of this pack.

Our Vision.

We are committed to grow not only in number of members but in the quality of our facilities and the enjoyment both on and off the pitch. We are an integral part of the community and have been since our club was founded in 1947. This is a core value within our club, and we make a special effort to ensure that it is upheld.

Our Mission.

Abberton & District Cricket Club"s mission is to:

  • PROVIDE a safe, friendly and welcoming environment for all
  • PLAY the game to the best of our abilities whilst upholding the game"s best traditions
  • UPHOLD the principles embodied in the "Spirit of Cricket"

Our Future.

Here at Abberton & District Cricket Club we firmly believe in building for the future. Not only in the physical sense of facilities and equipment, but in the inter-relationships of our players, members, supporters, partners in the development of the junior section to work their way up into the senior sides. Without an influx of youth, the club will eventually dry up and cease to operate on the level it currently does. This is not to say that we focus our efforts entirely on the juniors but through that we open ourselves up to grants and funds that are much needed for the development of the club.

Your Role.

Whilst we have enabled access to certain grants and donations, the club survives solely on the commitment and hard work of its members. We all have an expertise in one field or another and try to put that to best use within the club, but financially we don"t have the capability to utilise our potential to the maximum.

As a non-professional club we rely on donations, sponsorship and volunteers for the day-to-day running of the Club, and this is why we are integrating a development strategy to help us grow sustainably.

Our History

Although the club was officially formed in 1947, many games were played under the Abberton banner in earlier years in the neighbouring village of Fingringhoe. The four founder members of the club were Colin Tippetts, Jimmy Telford, Peter Russell-Walker and the landlord of The Langenhoe Lion, Bert Amos.

In the early days, the club boasted just the one side which played about 20 friendlies per season against other local sides such as West Mersea and Tollesbury. In 1979 a second XI was formed and this was followed in 1993 by a third XI and four years laer by a Ladies team. During this period there have been various age groups of Colts. There is now little time for friendlies as the club now plays more than 100 games each season at senior levels.

1977 saw Abberton become one of the eight founder members of the Greene King League (now known as the North Essex Cricket League) and were crowned champions in the inaugural year. In 1983 the club joined the Two Counties League and won promotion to the top flight at the first attempt.

The club moved to its present site in 1954 when it was recognized that a more permanent home was needed. This was provided by local farmer, LG Evans, initially on a leasehold agreement. He later sold the ground to the club for the princely sum of £200. Initially, the clubhouse was no more than an asbestos clad shed, but in 1974 members decided to add a bar to the facilities courtesy of a small interest free loan from Greene King and this addition certainly improved finances dramatically!

During the close season of 1979/80, new changing facilities and toilets were built at a cost of £14,000. Apart from a £4,000 loan from a local farmer and grants from the Sports Council and Colchester Borough Council totaling £1,700, all costs were met by club funds. In 1982 the old clubhouse was demolished and a new structure was added to the already impressive changing rooms. With the aid of a £7,000 grant from the Lottery, outdoor practice nets were installed in 2000.

The latest major addition to the facilities came in 2005 when an electronic scoreboard was installed in the north west corner.

In July 2007 the old roller, which had been a wonderful servant for many years, was replaced by a sparkling refurbished machine at a cost of £10,500. Nearly 50% of the cost was met by a very generous donation from The Baxter Foundation. Later that year the practice facilities were relaid at a cost of £6,000.

During the 2008 season it became obvious that the square had become very tired and, following various soil tests, it was concluded that the square should be dug up and relaid. Contractors came on site at the end of the season and the work was carried out at a cost of £2,750.

Our Teams

We run two teams on a Saturday and two on a Sunday, the latter being a slightly more social event than the former. Our Saturday teams play within the Two Counties Cricket League with fixtures across both Essex and Suffolk. There is such an enthusiasm for our members to play that it provides great stability and strength, and with it brings stiff competition for places within the teams. On Sundays our club features in the Two Counties Div "C" Cup and the North Essex Cricket League and through-out the season we host over 50 home games per season and in excess of 100 club games in total.

Our thriving junior section has been a huge success, with many youngsters not only regularly appearing for our senior teams, but having a vast impact on the game itself. Currently we have around 60 junior members who are divided into a under-15 team, an under-14 team, under-12 team, under-11 team plus Kwik Cricket which ages range from 5 up to 10/11 or when the child is comfortable to try and move on to hard ball. All of whom partake in regular competitive league and tournament style cricket. We hold coaching and training on every Saturday morning hard ball from 9.30am to 11.30am and kwik cricket 9.30am to 10.30am. The kitchen is always open for teas and coffees plus we have volunteers who come in and cook bacon or sausage rolls to raise money for the colts section fundraising campaign.

Junior matches are held nearly everyday apart from Thursday's and Saturday's we even have matches on Sunday mornings such is the demand for junior cricket within the club. Our ladies play Friday evening's then senior matches both days at the weekend, there is rarely a quiet moment at the ground during the summer.

Our Reach

The Club is situated alongside Abberton Road, and offers passers by a view across the ground. The road features a steady flow of traffic. Our bright entrance sign is visible to all passers by and features our "sponsors" and "affiliates" logos. The Club is always looking for opportunities to make optimum use of the Clubhouse during the winter months and welcomes any out of season inquiries for its facilities be they for one off events or for regular hirings. In the playing season, the Club always tries to accommodate requests for hire where the fixtures allow. We are regulars in our local Parish newsletter, local press "The Evening Gazette" and "The Standard". In addition to this we also recieve coverage in East Anglian Paper who do good coverage on the Two Counties league every week.

With over 40 registered playing members, 30 non-playing members and over 60 juniors signed on, regular visitors and supporters to the ground on match days, high spectator numbers for junior matches and regular press features, we have a substantial audience reach.

Our recently redesigned and restructured website provides extensive analysis of it's visitors, from the future analysis data it will be possible to say that how many of our visitors to the site are directed from search engines, and how many come directly to the site. Our old website had a total of 14,708,831 hits since the site"s launch on the 3rd May 2007. The number of visitors increases drastically during the cricket season and the period preceding events.

The website is used as a hub for club communication and information, providing news, documents and other important materials to club members and external interests. The site is intended to be a core aspect of the club and a vital tool for both communication and growth. We have full integration with social media sites such as Facebook & Twitter, and each important post in the news section of our website also appears on our followers" wall, reaching all of their friends and followers too.
