The Jack Petchey Foundation is a grant giving charity that funds programmes and projects benefitting young people aged 11-25, in London and Essex.

The aim of the charity is to support projects to enable young people to achieve their potential and contribute to society.

The major focus of the Foundation is the Achievement Award Scheme.

Since its formation in 1999, over £50 million has been distributed.

The Foundation's main achievements since its inception have been:

  • Grants totalling £50 million have been given to youth and school projects
  • The achievements of over 60,000 young people have been recognised and rewarded through the Achievement Award Scheme
  • Almost 2,000 schools and clubs currently participate in the Scheme
  • Nearly all the uniformed youth organisations in London and Essex benefit from grants
  • Sponsorship of many overseas/community projects including: Fulcrum Challenge, Rayleigh International, Groundwork East London
  • Over £4 million has been given to support "Out of School" or "Study Support" programmes in various Boroughs
  • £500,000 given to establish the "Centre for Entrepreneurship" at the University of East London
  • £1 million to support the Summer Uni programme in all London boroughs - matching the London Challenge grant
  • Supported young homeless people through the Petchey Foyer in Barking and Dagenham, due to open in 2009
  • Made a major contribution to education in Hackney through the Petchey Academy

Abberton and District Cricket Club is delighted to be associated with by the Jack Petchey Foundation. The club has been granted Bronze level status within the Achievement Award Scheme for 2009. This will enable 3 awards to be made - one in the spring term, one in summer and one in autumn/winter. Each award will be made to an individual, aged between 11 and 25, and can be nominated by either the main committee or by anyone associated with the cricket club. Any individual, within the age group, can be nominated and the nomination will reflect that person's effort, endeavour and achievement. Each award will be worth £200, which is to be spent on a project or item of the individual award winner's choice. The individual award winner will receive a framed Achievement Award certificate and an Achievement Award pin badge.

Winter Football 2017-18

The off season is now well in swing, with some great ground work done by Craig Scott, Awards evening done and dusted with some happy trophy winners along with the usual suspects who might as well have a dedicated plaque for the award. Football season is back this year with the Lions playing in the premier league at St Helenas School, Sheepen Road. If anyone would like to play, night it be one game or the full season please contact Aaron Trussler or Will House to get involved.
