Meet the Players Gregan Savill

In todays installment of Meet the Players we have former players Gregan Savill.

Nickname - Gregs, Jimmy, G-Man, G-Unit, G-String or anything else funny that follows G I suppose.

Joining Abberton - just through family members playing. My Dad was still playing when I was born and my brothers obviously played too. Plus the old dear done some alright teas too.

League debut - I think was in 2008. Smashed Long Melford in the 2's first game of the season. I think we got 300odd and skittled them for not many. I got a couple of wickets and I think Gilly rocked up and got 5 too. This was a Div 7 game as well!

Best figures - Bat: 102* against St Margaret's on a Sunday. Bowling: I got like 6/20 in a U16 Essex matchplay game against some Chelmsford lot.

Memorable moments: Probably winning PDQ cup on a Sunday at the club. Or winning close games in Div 1 against the likes of Mistley or Coggeshall. Never made it easy for ourselves!

All time XI:

  • S Calladine - great batsman and an absolute legend to get on the beers with. The self proclaimed "Great Wall of China".
  • K Robb - smashes it miles, decent coach too but does require subtitles.
  • R Moxon - class bloke, class batsman and a banker to run 3+ players on his own team. Could easily be the next James Bond.
  • Jon Ward (Eagle) - probably the best batsman to watch when in full flow.
  • K Brewster - smashed it miles and had hands like buckets.
  • D White - great to hear he's back. Always had bags of talent and when he turned to spin just went to another level.
  • M Gilray - probably best seam bowler I've been in the same team as.
  • C Scott - grumpiest bloke you'll ever meet but would always bag a couple and not give many away.
  • M Kettle (wk) - quickest hands in local cricket unless he's not injured for a whole season with a broken fingernail.
  • M Fox (cpt) - was captain for my most enjoyable season. An absolute legend and does so much for the club.
  • S Whitfield - picked up shed loads of wickets. Always made Sunday cricket more enjoyable and the most entertaining number 11 you'll ever see.

Favourite thing about club- Probably the ground and the all different characters. Made some good mates in my time there.

Away ground - Probably Castle Park although Elmstead and Frinton are always good to play. All great grounds.

Best player I've played with - Batsman - Dean Robinson. Overseas lad from Wivenhoe a few seasons back. Bowler - Would have to go with Matt Gilray. Both kiwi mugs.

Interesting fact - I actually used to be skinny at somepoint in my life.
